Songs from Misanthropolis, Berlin autumn 2017

“Misanthropolis is an imaginary place I’ve been working with and been meaning to flesh out, and with these new paintings I have struck on something, combining references to Roy Andersson’s film “Songs from The Second floor,” Fritz Lang’s film “Metropolis,” and the discussions on humanity and technology, freedom and democracy, the self and community. How do we as humans adjust to modern society, new technologies and ways of living with our ape brains? -The future may seem bleak, but using some humor might brighten our prospects and outlook”
